There are a lot of things that claim to be based on the Bible but are twisting scriptures to their own philosophies. What do you mean by Biblically-based?
I was taught, and believe, that to be Biblically based means to take scriptures - as they are and then build beliefs from there. Unlike many who take what they believe and find scriptures to 'reinforce' that belief, I have not done that.
Christians are told to "make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love." Obviously there is a lot of willpower implied in these words and I am all for it.
There is a place for effort and will-power. They should be used more to change your beliefs than to stop the bad habit. If you spend time changing your perspective about worrying and believe God is in control and you can trust Him, your entire perspective will change. If you change your thinking to be content with what God has allowed you to have, you will not be fighting yourself every day to have more. I am simply saying as you go through the rest of this program, spend your effort on changing your beliefs on a subconscious level. By doing so, you will gain control over your harmful behavior at a much faster pace.

What are the daily assignments?
For Example: Day 3. Morning (Read Self Instruction); Noon (Review Personal Page One); Evening (Repeat Self Instruction 10 times just before bedtime); When confronted with a trigger (Review Personal Page Two); Read Personal Chapter 1; Read Psalm 37:4 and Pray that the desire of your heart is to do God's will.
|
How much time will the assignments take?
Most of the assignments take less than one minute! Of course, when you read through the assigned chapter that will take a bit more (maybe 5 minutes). The daily scripture reading and prayer will take a few minutes. Then the assignment you have when confronted with a trigger (or switch) will only take less than one minute - each time this occurs. You can see that there is little time spent, but consistency will be the key.

There are a lot of humanistic ideas out there teaching this 'say it and get it' philosophy, is BiblicalMind one of these?
Absolutely Not! Here is an excerpt from the chapter on the Subconscious Mind:
"Be careful of those who exaggerate its (the subconscious) power over us. Am I saying that I believe the subconscious is "all powerful?" No, I’m more sensible than that. I am not saying that you can heal any disease, win the lottery or live a sinless life by tapping the power of your subconscious (see appendix A). I am saying that there is a body of beliefs that has accumulated from the time of birth to the present that greatly influences your present day behavior. The term I use for where that body of beliefs is stored is the subconscious mind.
Only recently have we as a society taken such extremes in our justification of destructive behaviors. It seems every year so-called "experts" determine that another behavior is a "disease" and as soon as there is enough funding these "experts" will provide the “cure". If your behavior can be labeled as a disease you are no longer responsible. This is a deceptive trap.
It is even more distressing to observe Christians doing the same thing. It is subtle for they use great phrases like "turn it over to Jesus." While that is correct that we should turn it over to Him, this type of thinking can result in blaming Him if we do not get the "miracle" cure from the "sugar daddy god." Yes we must depend on Christ for everything while at the same time accepting our responsibility. We are told to "renew our minds" to "think on these things" to "study to show ourselves approved" to "guard our minds" and the list could go on forever. Why are we told this? Because God created us, both with a conscious and subconscious mind and He knows we need to take control of what we put into our minds – because it will become a part of us.
Take charge of what you allow yourself to believe. Take charge of your thoughts and thus bring about what you desire in life."

What kind of questions are at the end of the chapters?
The questions at the end of each chapter relate to that chapter. For example the questions for Chapter 1 are: In one or two words - what would you like to be without your current problem? Write the opposite of what you believe you are now. For example Non-Smoker (vs Smoker). What do you feel you are missing in life? If you could change something in your past what would it be? What have you tried to change about yourself but failed? In one or two words - what is the problem? State it in such a way that makes it personal to you. For example if you smoke - SMOKER would be what you answer. This is what you are using the PageTwo system to change so write what means something to you!

What happens to the answers to the questions?
As you answer the questions, the software is taking your answers and building your personal program. The tools consist of: (1) A personal book consisting of 11 chapters. (2) Self Instruction Sheet (3) Your Page One and (4) Your Page Two.

How do I keep track of my progress?
The BiblicalMind software keeps track of your progress! As you go through the program, you click on the assignment given. You are taken directly to that assigned task (for example the chapter you are to read). Once you complete the task, you click continue. The program automatically takes you to your next task and also tags that you have completed the previous one! If you leave the program, it will remember where you were and what is your next thing to do. In addition, you can set a 'reminder' to come to your e-mail and/or phone of that days tasks. Like we said, it is like having a coach right there with you each step of the way.

What do you mean by my own personal book?
Some of the answers you give will be inserted into the text of a book that is written much like a 'diary'. Here is an example taken from one of these chapters: "I have made some excuses for what I do and these excuses have been: I like it - do not want to quit - leave me alone
I will no longer listen to those who have made it their life’s mission to convince me it is okay to stay on Page One. It is not okay to stay on Page One. I do not accept that I was "born that way" and must live with my problem. I will no longer make excuses for the way I was. I am able to discern what is best and I can be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. I am filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.
When I conquer this behavior I will feel: I will feel great - confident
I will always remember these behaviors but only as a reminder of how terrible it will feel to make that mistake again. I am ready to feel great. I am ready to be used by God for mighty things. I am ready to do everything through Christ who gives me strength."
