Addictions are About Behavior not Disease!

Only flawed studies show that the disease concepts of alcoholism and drug addiction are fact.

Independent studies have proven repeatedly that alcoholism and drug addiction are not diseases.

Treating these as diseases is more detrimental than helpful.

Drinking and doing drugs are learned behaviors and thus a choice.

The power to change your life is within your grasp.

What is an Addict?

We know instinctively what the word "addict" describes.  It's someone who needs his next fix; someone who will be experiencing withdrawal if he can't get a supply of that which he is devoted to.  This has some merit for I would love to live my whole life so addicted to Jesus that I experience withdrawal when I lose His power in my life – but there is so much more to the concept than what we commonly understand.

There is something inherent to addiction that causes the loss of self protectiveness.  There is a passion to it that takes risks.   The difference in the Biblical usage of this term, is that the one who is addicted is not controlled by the object of that passion.   In a world where an addict is seen as a foolish helpless individual, we must reexamine our attitude of repugnancy at such behavior.  What if those who are willing to throw their lives away on things that destroy actually exhibit a passion that we should all strive for? A passion that many Christians lack in their daily devotion to our Lord?  Of course an addict's passion can be corrupted, the object of that passion can be destructive, but it is very possible that the ability to exhibit that kind of selfless devotion, regardless of consequence to life and limb, has been placed in our heart by our Creator.

You Are Not Helpless

Those who are addicted to a harmful substance or behavior are told they are helplessly ensnared by genetics or disease.  What a misstatement of the truth!  God gives us the predisposition of an addict.  This is true in the since that the word "addicted" is also translated as "ordained," in Romans 13:1 "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God."  But this is false if we believe that it is the object of addiction that has the power over us!

Our ability to choose and take responsibility of our addiction does not arise by itself.  We are created in the image of the One who gifted everyone with the ability to choose and take responsibility.  We are an addict by design.  We have the ability to be addicted – to be passionate – to exhibit the selfless devotion and loss of protectiveness – to whatever we choose.  Thus what we are addicted to is a choice.

You are Challenged to be Addicted

Our Creator is also aware that we are creatures who like to see projects completed.  He knows we like to have a pat on the back – to see results of our work.  Who would be more intimately acquainted with us than the One who made us?  It is no accident that Jesus made it very clear that we must take up our cross daily and follow Him.  He who created us knows that the limits of our endurance reside between sunrise and sunset.  He challenges us to be addicted to "the errand" He has in store for us just today – for just one day.

Twelve Step Programs Don't Work for the Majority.

Did you know….

Conventional alcohol and drug centers do not work for the majority?

Conventional alcohol and drug centers can even be harmful to an alcoholic or drug addict?

People have a better chance of recovering without being exposed to conventional treatment programs?

Based on Alcoholics Anonymous World Services’ own statistics 45% of those who attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for the first time never return to another meeting. 95% never return to the meetings after the first year. Alcoholics Anonymous has only a 5% retention rate.

Those who leave AA and NA to find other programs are faced with the fact that 97% of available centers are 12 step or AA based.  Thus even those who look for a solution never find the program that solves their addiction.  PageTwo is based on a completely different model and has proven results.  We are not in the business of making excuses for habits; we are in the business of giving you control and developing positive changes.

12 Steps to . . . . .?
" I offered my help to an addiction recovery ministry and the response was they had a 12 step program and were 'all covered'.  I bit my tongue and walked away but could not sleep last night.  My burden is that so many people are fooled into thinking that 12 step programs have the answer.
I have attended AA meetings.  Many started with the reading of a statement that said (among other things), that this Twelve-Step program has rarely been known to fail, except for a few unfortunate people who are "constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves".  (You can look at this statement in A.A. Big Book).

It amazed me how everyone just sat there and smiled while what was being said could not be further from the truth. There are two things wrong with this statement.  First, people are not constitutionally incapable of knowing truth about themselves and second, independent statistics prove failure is not a rarity!

Because of the nature of the programs themselves (they are anonymous remember) we are prevented from getting accurate figures.  Yet anyone who seriously examines this issue will discover that the true figures are at least 90% failure rate with the 12 step programs.   In my research the actual numbers I come up with are more like 95 to 100% failure!

"How do you say 100%?" you might ask' I can explain it this way:

A 5% success rate is nothing more than the rate alcoholics and drug addicts quit on their own. That's right, 5% per year will stop because they decide to stop.  Now if you have ever met anyone in AA or NA you will be told that this is just not true, no one can quit successfully that way, they are just fooling themselves.  Well you don't have to only take my word for it.

The Harvard Medical School reported that in the long run, the rate of spontaneous remission in alcoholics is slightly over 50 percent. That means that the annual rate of spontaneous remission is around 5 percent. (Treatment of Drug Abuse and Addiction — Part III, The Harvard Mental Health Letter, Volume 12, Number 4, October 1995, page 3. (See Aug. (Part I), Sept. (Part II), Oct. 1995 (Part III).)

Therefore, any treatment program that has a 5% success rate really has no success at all.  A 100% failure rate!  None of us can take credit for those who would have done it anyway.  And worse, if the success rate is less than 5%, then they are having a negative impact.
I don't expect you to just believe me but I do pray you check it out for yourself.  Just go to Google and search for "12 Step programs statistics".  I do believe this is important."

Achieve the Body Weight you've Always Wanted

I typed in ‘weight loss’ into Google to see what I could find.  The search produced more than 106,000,000 results!  Yes you read it right One Hundred and Six MILLION!  Talk about a problem.  And the sad fact is that as more so called ‘solutions’ arise, the problem continues to get worse!

According to National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

Nearly two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight

All adults (20+ years old): 129.6 million (64.5 percent)
Women (20+ years old): 64.5 million (61.9 percent)
Men (20+ years old): 65.1 million (67.2 percent)

Nearly one-third of U.S. adults are obese

All adults (20+ years old): 61.3 million (30.5 percent)
Women (20+ years old): 34.7 million (33.4 percent)
Men (20+ years old): 26.6 million (27.5 percent)

This is not new news to anyone, but the solution to the problem continues to escape us. Overweight and obese people are found worldwide.  In the United States alone approximately 300,000 adult deaths each year are attributable to unhealthy dietary habits and physical inactivity or sedentary behavior.  No…..it is not some new pill or fad diet that is going to change this trend.  The reason is explained in The Biblical Mind.  Until you change the internal switches that cause you to habitually continue the behavior, chances of change are minimal
